problem resetting scantronic 9448 after alarm is triggered
In May the estate agent triggered our alarm by not managing to key in the code in time on entry. They tried to then switch off the alarm by entering the code but it had no effect and the alarm continued to sound for approx 30 minutes. On our return we found the red 'Day' code lit and when we entered the code it made the internal alarm sound very quietly and the little indicator lights light up sequentially in a scrolling effect. Entering the code again makes the quiet alarm stop and the scrolling effect stop with just the 'Day' code lit once again. We paid £70 for a local company to come out and spend 1 minute fixing the fault. I asked them how we would resolve it if it happened again but they would not tell us. Last week it did happen again. My mum set off the alarm on entry by not getting to key in the code in time. Again, entering the code did not disable the alarm, it ran for approx 30 mins and when we put the code in we hear a very quiet internal alarm going and the lights again scroll. That's now left it in a state where we can't reset it and use it when we go out. Please can you advise if this is a problem that we can resolve ourselves without having to pay an engineer to come out. Also, do you have any idea why it is happening in the first place?
Yesterday we took the cover off the alarm and the tamper light lit up. We closed the cover again and entered the code a few times and the tamper light has now gone off and the original problem persists, of the quiet alarm sounding and the scrolling lights when you enter the code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It would also be great to know how to set the alarm so it gives you more than 10 secs to disable in on entry as this is a real problem. Many thanks

Hi Phar,

There are two instruction manuals for this panel, user and engineer. I doubt if you have either. If you are prepared to sit down with a coffee and have a quick read, you should be able to have the system running exactly as you want it. Of course, a local installer won't tell you how to cure the problem, he wants another £70. I'll see if I have the manuals and shall send them to you as attachments by e.mail.

Best Wishes.

Engels.

Found your manuals, It is probable that you need a new standby battery inside the control panel and that you have a tamper fault. However, I cannot locate your e.mail address to send the manuals at the moment. click on my name and send me a private message with your e.mail and I'll get them off to you.

If there is anything you want to clarify or are unsure of, please let the site know.

Take Care

A fuse has blown, your sensors won't be lighting up. As Engels says the battery almost certainly needs replacing & that could be why the fuse keeps blowing.

If that installer had come out again, Ron, he would have earned £140 for a few minutes work. I reckon he should have assessed the problem entirely, decided on the odds of it happening again and solved it at his first visit. But there you go, if he didn't find a blown fuse just what sort of an engineer are we dealing with ?

Many thanks for the replies and for the manuals, very appreciated. We will try and replace the standby battery and fuses today and let you know how we get on. I noticed on the invoice from the last call-out it appears to say 'Aux five replaced. All back to normal' - does this refer to the fuse do you know?
Thanks again, I'll send update when we've replaced the above.
Kind regards
Pamela

Husband got some new fuses from the local hardware store this morning and the alarm is up and running again. We will get a new battery too so hopefully once this is in place it will stop the fault recurring. We really appreciate your advice, thanks so much.

Hand written? For 'five' read 'fuse'. Most welcome. Very solid panel, very reliable.
Replace the battery ASAP.
