Pyronix Sterling 10 Problem
jgray90067 - 07-06-2010 10:33 AM

I have an ongoing problem with my Sterling 10 system. This was already installed in the house we bought a year ago and which was built in 2007.

Every time we have a mains power failure in our area (which seems to happen fairly often) the alarm goes off. It is not a continuous alarm but about a 5 second burst followed by a 5 second silence then another burst...which goes on until the power is restored, after which we get a single beep, beep which can be stopped using the Function key?

Any ideas what my problem is and how to fix it?

It is normal mate - Warning you that there is a power loss - Do you have the user manual?

Yes, I do have the user manual. When it goes off though it is the outside siren which is going off making a hell of a noise, almost like a normal alarm?? This is not normal surely, every time the AC power fails? I expect some internal beeping from the control panel but not a huge noise from the outside siren?

HHmmm - The only option I can see is that for a TAMPER activation to sound the external & internal sirens - I've not worked on the Sterling 10 for quite a few years, hopefully someone here has

The panel also displays 1.6 on the top line and a series of bars about 2/3 the way accross on the lower line. We try all things to stop it, like entering the User Code, once or twice or pressing Function but the panel does not seem to accept any input?

Hi,

Not much to go wrong with a sterling 10, it's a fairly standard pyronix panel.

My first choice, whenever the outside sounder activates in a power cut is to change the standby battery inside the panel..If you still have code entering faults after that the sterling is quite straightforward to sort out.

So first things first..replace the standby battery inside the panel... and no..it is not usual to have a loud noise from the external sounder in the case of a sterling 10 unless you have specifically programmed it for that. The fact that you are not able to stop the external sounder in a power cut by inputting codes is almost certainly due to the fact that in power cut conditions the panel does not have enough juice to cope due to a low or almost non existent battery.

During a power cut the battery, or what's left of it, is trying to supply current to the control panel, to all the detection devices throughout the property and all ancillaries.

Don't press any more buttons until you have replaced the control panel battery with a BRAND NEW one.

If there are any further problems after replacement, always come back to the site and ask.

Take Care

Engels
